Mrs Cruse (Head of Years 7 and 8)
Year 8 have risen and taken the challenge to call out gender bias and inequality. On Wednesday the year group came together to think about the theme of the 2021 International Women’s Day theme #ChooseToChallenge. The students looked at the following words by activist Gloria Steinem: ‘The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist, nor to any one organisation, but to the collective efforts to all who care about Human rights.’
The Year 8 forms then discussed how they will show their solidarity and support pledged their support to this they all raised their hand to show that they are ‘in’ for the challenge and that they are committed to calling out bias, to be bold in questioning stereotypes and to help forge an inclusive world.
All the students then wrote on a cut out of their hand a message of solidarity or a message of about something which they are good at. These messages are going to be displayed in school to show the community that as individuals we are all responsible for our own actions and how as a community which can show strength and solidarity in this year’s International Women’s Day theme.
