What an amazing response to the Royal Mail Heroes Stamp Design Competition launched a few weeks ago. Millions of key workers have kept the country going when many others were told to stay home and there have been many people who volunteered to help in their communities. Royal Mail wants to honour them by producing a set of eight stamps. The stamps will feature designs created by eight school-aged children.

We had over 100 stamp entries from Years 3 –7. Every entry has received a House Point. Ms Davies (Digital Design Creator) and Mrs Wilkins (Design Technology Teacher) were our judges selecting the winning entries within our BGS community. All BGS winning entries received a certificate and extra House Points. View a virtual gallery of the entries HERE.

Miss Coote (Year 3 Teacher) said: “I would like to say a big well done and thank you to the Student Voice and Form Head group for their support and hard work in promoting this competition to the students in the Junior School. Their posters, daily encouragement and close tracking of entries certainly contributed to the 100+ entries that we received and I look forward to working on our next project together.

Ms Davies said: “The students nominated a wide variety of heroes from friends and neighbours to overlooked keyworkers. Every design had its merits, but the ones we chose stood out to us in particular.”

Mrs Wilkins added: “It was lovely to see so many highly thoughtful and creative designs for this competition. This which made it very difficult to decide on the winning entries in school. I am really impressed with standard of graphic design work we received from each year group. Well done to all!”

All entries have now been sent to the Royal Mail where a special panel of judges will pick the winning designs and the final eight stamps will be sent to Her Majesty, The Queen to review before they can be printed and issued. We wish everyone that entered the best of luck. How wonderful to think that a stamp designed by one of our BGS community could reach the finals and (fingers crossed!) be a winning design.
