Congratulations to the Year 9 students who gave outstanding speeches in the 2021 Public Speaking Competition on Wednesday.

The standard this year was as high as ever, and the adjudicators were impressed by the students' enthusiasm, public speaking skills, and their creative interpretation of current themes.

Morgan Forbes (we were unable to photograph as she has had an incredibly busy week in the Queen Lear production) won the event, with her thought-provoking and well-argued speech entitled Institutional Racism. Eva Ng was a worthy runner-up with her speech: The Difference between Psychopaths and Sociopaths.

Thank you to our adjudicators, Mrs Clements (Physics Teacher) and Mrs Wilkins (Design Technology Teacher), for giving up their time for the event, and for their wise words and warm commendations of the students' speeches.

Mrs Everitt (Acting Head of English) said: “We are the delighted with the way the students have developed the essential life skill of speaking in public, which will stand them in good stead for the future. They are confident and resilient communicators."
