We are thrilled to announce that talented chorister, Cecilia Kilpatrick (Year 11), has been awarded a place with the National Youth Training Choir of Great Britain, following an audition during October half term.
The National Youth Training Choir provides a training ground for singers to develop their vocal and musicianship skills in diverse and demanding repertoire. Being a member of the choir will include the opportunity for two residential courses a year full of music, learning opportunities and social activities alongside 100-150 singers of the same age.
Commenting on the exciting news, Cecilia said: “I auditioned for the National Youth Training Choir over the October half-term, having been in the National Youth Girls’ Choir last year after taking my Grade 8. I really loved the course and made so many friends there. The sound we created together was amazing, so when I unfortunately came to the age limit, I decided to audition for the next choir up - the Training Choir.
“For my audition I had to prepare an unaccompanied piece, which was then picked apart during the audition and the singers taking the audition helped me to focus on different technical parts of the voice to improve and see how I responded to their feedback. We also looked at some musicianship aspects including improvisation of melodies, sight-singing and chord identification.
“I’m so excited about my next course, which is during the Easter break, as I am learning so much and making music with incredible musicians. I really hope it is able to be face-to-face!”
Cecilia is Head Chorister of St. Andrew’s Church in Bedford and has been a part of the choir for six years. Recently she took her Dean’s Bronze Award Exam with them and passed with a high distinction. She has also been a member of Bel Canto since Year 7 and has achieved a distinction in Grade 8 ABRSM singing and is now working towards a diploma. As well as these choirs, she sings in the joint choir between Bedford School and BGS.
Many congratulations Cecilia, we look forward to following your progress!
