Senior School Rowing

Miss Huckle (Head Rowing Coach)

On Sunday 13th February 2022, the Boat Club had a very successful day on the water competing at Bedford Fours and Eights Head. With our Years 11 and Sixth Form rowers competing on home water, it was a fantastic start to our half term break. All crews put in strong performances with a number of top three placings across events.

Having worked hard throughout the season so far, and only beginning our campaign in sweep oar boats in September, our Senior First VIII put in a fantastic performance to come out ahead of BMS and a number of senior crews to finish 2nd in the Women’s Eights event. A fantastic performance that shows the progress they have made so far this season. We also boated a J16 VIII, which again put in a brilliant performance to win their event. This result has also qualified them to represent the Eastern Region at the Junior Inter-Regional Regatta at the National Watersports Centre in April.

As always, our BGS rowers showed impressive boatmanship skills throughout the day, with all those competing displaying a committed and professional attitude to their racing.

We now look forward to a very busy period of racing. This weekend our senior crews head to the infamous Boat Race course and race on the Tideway for the very first time in preparation for Women’s Eights Head and The Schools Head in mid-march. All of our squads are also now fully immersed in their preparations for the National Junior Sculling Head to be held at Dorney Lake on Wednesday 16th March 2022.

We wish our crews every success at these National Level events over the coming few weeks, and thank all parents and the Friends of Bedford Girls' School Rowing Club (FBGSRC) for their ongoing support!

The FBGSRC will be holding an AGM on Wednesday 2nd March 2022 at 7.30pm in the Assembly Hall, all rowing parents are welcome.
