Many congratulations to Lennita Pitt (Year 9) whose short film, Who is God? received a Special Mention in the Cambridge in Your Classroom competition.

The annual competition is run by the Faculty of Divinity at the University of Cambridge and is based around the themes of the series Cambridge in Your Classroom, which aims to answer some of the big questions of religion, philosophy and ethics.

Lennita reflected: “Last term, the University of Cambridge held a Film competition with the theme of Cambridge in Your Classroom, which consisted of videos on their website. The videos are lectures from Cambridge professors. My film is based on the video lecture Who is God’ By Dr Ruth Jackson-Ravenscroft, which talks about the complexity of the all-knowing omnipresent being, known to us human beings as God.

“In order to create my film, I first wrote it up as an essay based off of the ‘Who is God?’ lecture questions provided. After that, I decided that my film would be ‘avant-garde’. I wanted to have somewhat of a storyline and a good idea for that was having a woman go on a journey and travelling, but still have the sense of ambiguity by not digging too deep into that and adding nature visuals from where I live in Bedford. It took about a week to make and once I had the visuals, I edited it and added music using the classic iMovie.

“I enjoy making movies, so it was a nice competition to enter as it allowed me to use my already existing knowledge of content creation and while also learning new editing skills and tricks. Film competitions are definitely something I would like to make a habit of doing, if not for winning, simply for my enjoyment!
