We are delighted to welcome new members to our BGS community – lively blue tit chicks. The eggs were laid on Friday 29th April and hatched on Friday 13th May. You’re never too young to join BGS!
Our feathered friends are certainly feeling at home in the new bird boxes and it is a real privilege to see their progress on the big screen. The bird boxes were purchased for the school following a kind legacy left by Mr Robert Waller following the death of his wife Marion Waller (née French, BHS 1950 and French and Spanish teacher at DAHS 1956-1963). Marion had a passion for the natural world: we wanted to purchase something for the school that not only honoured Marion but also provided an ongoing educational benefit for the students.
When fully grown, blue tits on average measure 12cm in length, have a wingspan of 18cm and weigh a mere 11g. Whilst in the birdbox they will be enjoying a tasting array of insects, caterpillars, seeds and nuts, giving them the sustenance they need to become fully fledged.
