Many congratulations to BGS 2021 alumna, Maddie Axford, who recently won the Everyday Heroes Young Achiever award for her outstanding hockey achievements on the national and international stage.
Hosted by the Bedford Independent on Thursday 27th April at The Quarry Theatre on St Peter’s Street, the awards recognise and celebrate the people and organisations that consistently go above and beyond to improve communities across Bedford.
The superstars nominated for an award could be anyone from event organisers, young achievers to charity fundraisers. The School were very proud to also have other BGS alumnae and students nominated for this prestigious award including, Florence Miller (BGS 2022) Alex Gentry (Lower Sixth), Lucy Young (Lower Sixth) and Eloise Cole (Year 10).
Maddie is currently studying International Media and Communications at the University of Nottingham, where she also represents the university in the BUCS British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS). Her recent achievements include being selected for the 2023 GB Women's Elite Development Programme (EDP) squad. Maddie will be joined by high-potential U18 and U21 English players, who will continue to develop their tournament hockey skills and look to secure a place in the team for the next women’s Junior World Cup in Chile in December.
In April 2022, Maddie and her England Hockey U21 team claimed a historic bronze at the Junior Women’s World Cup in Potchefstroom, South Africa.
Many congratulations to all our incredible alumnae and students, we are so proud of you all!
