Following a busy regatta season through May, June and July there has been much to celebrate for the Boat Club at BGS over the summer months. With some of our best results to date at the National Schools Regatta and Henley Women’s Regatta, as well as some fantastic days of racing at more local events. The majority of our rowers then took the opportunity for a well-earned summer break, however, for one member of the BGS rowing team the racing season did not stop there.
Upper Sixth student Alex Gentry began her summer break by coxing the Women’s Squad from our local club, Star club. With some of the BGS coaching team in the boat, she raced in two finals and picked up a win.
Alex then headed to Munich for the European Masters Rowing Championships. Alex coxed four races and won two, with rowers aged 39-79 in the boat! While she was there she also coxed an international crew of two American and two German ladies who get together at the major events periodically. Well done Alex – everybody at BGS is very proud of your achievements.
Having now returned to school, we are very excited to have our full programme of rowing back up and running. With a new season ahead, our rowers have already worked really hard through their pre-season training, and have certainly returned with renewed enthusiasm and drive for the new season.
We kick off our racing season off with St Neots Head on Sunday 1st October, closely followed by our first home race at Bedford on Sunday 8th October, where we hope to see lots of support on the river bank!
