On Saturday 18th November, our U18 swimming team members, Lucy Young (Upper Sixth), Eleni Zorn (Upper Sixth), Bella Ward (Lower Sixth) and Eloise Cole (Year 11) travelled to the Sandwell Aquatics Centre in Birmingham to compete in the ESSA 65th Secondary Schools’ Team Championship National Finals.
The students participated in both the 4x50m Freestyle and Medley Relays. We advanced to the finals in both events, securing an impressive 8th place nationally against the top swimming schools in the country, which was truly incredible. Mr. Castro (Head of Swimming) and I are extremely proud of the students and their accomplishments.
For our Upper Sixth Swimmers, Lucy and Eleni, it was an especially meaningful day as it marked their final opportunity to represent BGS Nationally. Since joining BGS, Lucy has competed in all eight possible Team Championship National Finals, with Eleni participating in seven. This remarkable achievement has only been attained by one other student in the past.
We would like to thank all of the Upper Sixth swimmers including those that were not competing this weekend for their outstanding contribution to swimming. There are still some more competitions to come and wish them all the best for the rest of the season.
