On Monday 20th November, BGS played host to the ACT!'23 Theatre Festival. The festival is a long-running Bedford Modern School (BMS) tradition and provides opportunities for students from local schools to come together and collaborate on a piece of theatre.
This year, BGS students worked with peers from BMS and Lincroft Academy. The process involves a workshop facilitated by a visiting practitioner - this year was Hannah Conway - where the students learn new techniques that can be applied to creating original theatre.
The project always provides a stimulus and 2023's was Penny Dreadfuls. Once the workshop had been completed, students went back to their own schools and worked on their pieces for a number of weeks before the final performance where the work was then tied together by Hannah. Our students,Elena-Mia, Robyn, Nora, Safa and Marwah offered up an excellent performance and interpretation of Black Bess, and we couldn't be prouder.
Mr Stratton (Head of Drama and Dance) said: “'The Act!’23! Theatre Festival is an excellent addition to the Drama Departments events schedule, and we look forward to continuing to engage with Bedford Modern School and other local Secondary's in years to come. The collaborative approach is a wonderful way to support learning and experience; an approach that is vital in both the Years 10 and 11 curriculum. A huge well done to Elena-Mia, Robyn, Nora, Safa and Marwah for their devised performance - drama students of tomorrow! Thank you also to Ms Emberson for the imaginative direction and thoughtful facilitation of the project
