Sixth Form Wellbeing

By Miss Duckworth (Admissions and Marketing Assistant)

On Monday and Tuesday this week, some of our Lower Sixth students attended the first ever BGS Well-being Festival, aimed at helping our students recharge after their exams and before the start of a busy half term. Hosted at Layer Marney Tower near Colchester, the students (and a few lucky staff members) had the whole estate to themselves and were able to explore the beautiful grounds and venture up the historic tower where they were met with incredible views.

The students took part in a variety of activities throughout the day, including garden games, designing t-shirts, unicorn racing and yoga. Some of the students took part in a wellness walk through the grounds and surrounding fields, where they even got to spot some deer. Anyone who wanted some quiet time could spend some time in the barn or in the farm area where there were goats, pigs and chickens.

To get into the festival spirit, there were coloured hairsprays, hair accessories and face glitter (a trail of glitter was left behind when we left). In the evening, after some incredible pizzas and desserts, it was dancing galore with a sunset line dancing session and a silent disco which lit up the tower until it was time to head to bed, tired but very happy.

On Tuesday morning we departed for Cambridge, where the students had a few hours to spend exploring with some even going punting despite the rainy weather!

It was a great way for them to unwind and build wonderful happy memories. We hope that it becomes an annual event for Lower Sixth.

Anya Pawar said: “I loved all the activities available to us, as well as the well-being walks and exploring the grounds. My favourite part was the food offered to us and the staff on-site were all lovely.”

Licia Cacioppo commented: “The silent disco outside was great fun, and we particularly enjoyed Mr Gibson and Mrs Woolley’s great music taste.”–

Georgie Allen said: “I really enjoyed the yoga session and the sound bath as I found it really relaxing. And the food vans were lovely.”

Scarlett Jenkins said: “I loved the relaxed atmosphere and all the fun activities on offer at the Well-being Festival.”
