Sadlers’ Great Run!

Whole School Alumnae

Siblings and BGS alumnae, Miss Sadler (Science Teacher, BGS 2014), Victoria (BGS 2019), and Alex Sadler (BGS 2016) have signed up to run the Great North Run 2024 in Newcastle this coming September in aid of Diabetes UK.

Twenty years ago, the family received a life-changing diagnosis—at the age of 5, Alex was diagnosed as a type 1 diabetic. To mark two decades since Alex’s diagnosis, the three Sadlers have been training hard to take on the challenge in one of the greatest half marathons in the world.

Type 1 diabetes can impact day-to-day life, both in terms of managing blood sugar levels and dealing with the mental aspect of living with a chronic health condition. It’s a 24/7 job with no holidays or time off, but the support from those around you makes all the difference.

Whilst a serious, albeit mostly manageable condition, there are a great number of organisations and charities dedicated to providing support and advice to those who need it—not just for type 1 diabetics, but for the millions of people in the UK and around the world that live with any type of diabetes. Diabetes UK is such a charity—raising awareness of all types of diabetes, campaigning for change both in terms of healthcare provision and dismantling stereotypes and providing tangible help and guidance for those who need it—regardless of whether it is those living with diabetes or their families and friends.

We are incredibly proud of Miss Sadler, Alex and Victoria for their dedication and commitment to this cause. We wish them the best of luck in the Great North Run 2024 and are confident they will inspire many with their efforts.
