Budding netballers at the school had the chance to see how the professionals do it when they watched the Hertfordshire Mavericks in the Easter Holidays (Monday 30th March).
A group of 22 Senior School students travelled to the Hertfordshire Sports Village in Hatfield, where the Mavericks hosted Team Bath in the Netball Superleague – the sport’s top league in the country.
The game, which ended 42-33 in the Mavericks’ favour, was screened live on Sky Sports, with the girls appearing briefly on camera.
They also met with BGS Year 11 student Anna Hunt, who plays for the Mavericks Youth side, after the game (pictured).
Anna has recently been selected as part of a group of five girls who have been earmarked as having England potential, giving them the opportunity to train with England’s U17 and U19 teams.
Mrs Axford, Head of Sport, said: “It was great for the girls to be able to soak up the atmosphere of an elite match and learn from some of the top netball players in the country.
“I’d also like to congratulate Anna on the opportunity she has with the England set-up. To be able to train with the U17 and U19 squads will bring her game on no end and she’ll be in the best position to impress the coaches.”
