Bedford Girls' School has today announced an excellent set of International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme results.

With an average score of 37.5 points, the students have far exceeded the international average of 29.8 points.

Over 70% of the Higher Level subjects were awarded a grade 6 or 7, which is the equivalent of an A or A* at A-Level. 

Six students recorded over 40 points, out of a possible 45, and three students achieved an impressive 43 points, placing them in the top 1% of IB students worldwide.

Three students – Rebecca Swaney (Maulden, Bedfordshire), Juliet Allen (Bedford) and Esther Platt (Bedford, pictured left to right) have achieved the required points to take up Oxbridge places, whilst their peers are accepting places at leading universities.

The IB Diploma is an internationally recognised qualification, increasingly favoured by universities and businesses alike.

Students are required to study six subjects including English, Mathematics, a science, a language and a humanities subject. Students also complete an extended essay, study Theory of Knowledge and undertake a range of community and extra-curricular activities as an integral part of the Diploma.

In May 2015 over 140,000 students sat the IB Diploma worldwide.
