A group of Lower Sixth girls visited the M1 Catthorpe interchange today (Wednesday 30th September) for a behind-the-scenes look at the project.
The visit was a Careers Department initiative, designed to give the girls an insight into working in engineering.
The new southbound link to the M1, opened 10 days ago, is the first completed part of the £191m improvement to junction 19, which has 142,000 cars passing through every day.
The 250 metre viaduct now carries M6 eastbound traffic over the forthcoming M6-A14 link road onto the M1 southbound.
Highways England showed the girls around the site, revealing what has to be done to deliver such a vast project, ranging from costs to the volume of materials used.
