Year 11 pupil Rhiannon Fleming was ‘Highly Commended’ at last Friday’s Young Geographer of the Year 2015 awards.
Announced at the Royal Geographical Society in Kensington Gore, London, the Young Geographer of the Year 2015 awards celebrated the centenary of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s Endurance Expedition, with pupils nationwide asked to respond to the question Why does Antarctica matter?
Rhiannon entered the Key Stage 4/GCSE category (14-16), and was required to submit an annotated A3 poster, over the summer holidays, to respond to the question.
As well as receiving a 'Highly Commended’ certificate, Rhiannon and her peers were treated to talks from speakers who had been to Antarctica.
Mrs McPhail, Geography Teacher, said: “The whole day was a very special and memorable occasion. Rhiannon should be very proud of herself for doing so well against thousands of pupils across the country.”
