By Mrs Cruse, Head of Year 9
Last Friday (3rd March) the entire Year 7 group headed to the Black Country Museum to bring their History topic from 'rocket to apple' alive.
Despite the torrential rain and cold wind, the girls had a most enjoyable and informative day stepping back in time to a Victorian working town.
They experienced life down a coal mine; seeing the dangers the Victorians faced if they went down into the pits, and they went on a canal boat where in one of the tunnels the girls had to move the canal boat themselves by 'legging'.
They also found out that the coal and iron used to fuel the industrial revolution, had been made when the land was tropical and part of a rain forest close to Brazil, before it broke away.
The girls visited an ironmonger, chemist, bakery and a sweet shop, finding out about what was bought and how much it cost.
They also saw chain links being made by hand and went and visited a small Methodist chapel.
The day brought their History lessons to life and the girls asked many pertinent questions, impressing the tour guides with their knowledge.
