On Friday 21st April, Bedford Girls’ School invited parents and over 100 pupils to celebrate our sporting achievements of the last year.
Miss MacKenzie, Bedford Girls’ School Headmistress, opened the evening by highlighting the sporting successes of the girls’ and explaining how our sporting ethos supports self-confidence, teamwork and focus, which helps shape their individual character.
Reports highlighting sporting success were read by various pupils followed by the awarding of colours to students in Year 10 and above, across all sporting disciplines for commitment and achievement. All the audience then celebrated the following individual award winners:

The evening was completed with an inspiring presentation from our guest speaker, Laura Merrifield, who is the England Lacrosse co-captain. A formidable talent, she won gold for her country at the 2012 European Championships in Amsterdam. In addition, Laura was named on the Federation of International Lacrosse 2013 World Cup All-World Team.
Year 10 pupil, Navina Brown, said: “The Sport Awards was an enjoyable evening. It was inspiring and very interesting to learn about all the other achievements of the girls. Laura Merrifield really opened our eyes to the perseverance and commitment needed to succeed in any discipline especially that of sport”.
Mrs Axford, Director of Sport, added: “It was absolutely fantastic to be able to celebrate the sporting successes of so many senior girls in the school. Laura Merrifield as our guest speaker was the perfect sporting role model and we look forward to watching and supporting her as she captains the England lacrosse team at the World Cup this summer”.
