Mrs Howe (Director of Drama and Dance)

As part of their GCSE Drama course, Year 10 and 11 Drama pupils went to see the stage premiere of the world famous novel The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold on Tuesday 11th September at the Royal and Derngate, Northampton. Adapted by award winning playwright Bryony Lavery in collaboration with director Melly Still, the play tells the unforgettable story of: ‘Susie Salmon a young girl like any other who wants to be beautiful, adores her charm bracelet and has a crush on a boy from school. There’s one big difference though – Susie is dead. Now she can only observe while her family manage their grief in their different ways.’

Jaya Chambers (Year 11) said: “The Lovely Bones had me on the edge of my seat at all times. Everything about it from the incredible set with a mirror in the background reflecting every action the actors made, to the conviction the actors spoke with made me believe everything they were saying. Even though the topic was very intense, The Lovely Bones highlighted the issue of rape and murder in a sensitive and captivating way. I really enjoyed it and I'll take many of the dramatic techniques and movements into account as I go through my GCSE”

Shreya Arun (Year 11) adds: ‘‘The Lovely Bones was very interesting and compelling, as soon as it started I felt captivated by the story. The vibrant and ethereal music and lighting added to the thrilling experience but also helped highlight the fantastical make believe of Susie’s ‘in between’. Overall, it was a fantastic performance and I would thoroughly recommend it.”
