On Thursday 14th September, Year 10 made the trip up to Edale for an adventure-based and team bonding residential. Based at one of the highest residencies in the Peak District, the YHA Edale, the girls were involved in many risk-taking activities, which involved elements of teamwork and building self-confidence. Ffion Heale, summarise their experience:
Ffion Heale
“We took part in a variety of risk-taking activities such as, abseiling, canoeing and rock-climbing. My favourite activity was rock-climbing, which was a surprise to me, as I have always disliked rock-climbing in the past, and would never even make it half way. However, with the encouragement of the Edale leaders I managed to get right to the top, I was very proud of myself.
“I also enjoyed canoeing, although it was cold and pouring with rain, we couldn’t stop laughing whilst playing the games in the water. We also did an activity called weaselling. At first, I had no clue what this meant, but I found out that it is an activity where you squeeze yourself through small gaps in between rocks. Although it may not be for everyone, I was surprised how many tight spaces I could fit myself through. Overall, I had a very fantastic time at Edale, I got to find out more about my peers and teachers.”

“Edale was a very enjoyable trip where everyone could get to know one another more for the year ahead. I particularly loved abseiling, although it was the activity I was most afraid of. The first time I abseiled with my friend as I was afraid. On my second attempt I abseiled by myself, which was to my surprise more enjoyable and easier. This trip really helped me overcome my fears. Being in Edale really made me appreciate the true nature of the UK and I’d love to go there again.”

“Edale was exciting and full of exhilarating activities, including rock climbing, canoeing, abseiling, caving, weaselling and climbing up to the top of Kinder Scout. There were many challenges to conquer some of which being, leaving your comfort zone and facing your biggest fears. The weekend was an amazing experience and I’m sure will never be forgotten.”
