Lucy Young and Isabel Jackson (Year 8)

Last Friday (12th October), a group of Year 8 students visited the British Library in London. The library contains a huge archive of everything published in the United Kingdom - it was amazing to see the huge wall of books!

During the visit, we learnt lots of new skills and tips to enhance our creative writing, including a workshop teaching how to research effectively. After a guided tour of the library, including spending time in the amazing ‘Treasures Room’, we visited the Windrush exhibition, exploring the sad, yet uplifting stories of those who came to the UK for a better life. The afternoon was spent expanding our creative writing skills using our knowledge of the Windrush stories. The trip was enjoyable and educational.

Mrs Hoar, Challenge and Extend Co-ordinator, said: “As always, the British Library offers the most fantastic opportunities and our girls rose to every challenge. We will certainly share their finished pieces of creative writing on our ‘Write On’ blog.”
