Grace Gaffey (Year 10)
The BGS Careers Department held an informative Lunchbox lecture on Wednesday with the PR firm Liz Male Consulting. The consultancy, which is a based in Olney, provides PR and media relations consultancy to parts of construction, property and sustainable building sectors. They help companies build positive relationships with journalists and specialist correspondents.
The session was hosted by their Creative Content Consultant, Hannah Cooper, who manages the social media strategy and also leads on event management for Liz Male Consulting. It was very interesting to find out more about what a career in PR involves, we were introduced to all aspects, including writing press releases to live tweeting at events for companies.
During the session, Hannah also highlighted successful PR case studies including the CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) Project 84 campaign in March 2018. CALM, a charity that works to prevent male suicide installed 84 sculptures of men with a hood pulled over their faces on top of the ITV Tower, to raise awareness of the number of men who take their lives every week. The campaign gained an overwhelming reaction; ITV’s This Morning had assisted in raising awareness by dedicating three days of programming to male suicide.
Overall, it was really informative and the speaker provided a very useful insight into the skills required, we would like to thank Liz Male Consulting for coming in to speak to us.
