We are proud to announce that BGS alumna Liv Pryer (2015) has been selected to represent the University of Oxford at The Boat Race, which takes place on Sunday 7th April at 2:13pm.
The Boat Race is an annual rowing race between the Oxford University Boat Club and the Cambridge University Boat Club, rowed between men's and women's open-weight eights. The tough course is four miles long, which stretches between Putney and Mortlake on the River Thames in South West London. The first women's event was in 1927 and the race has been held annually since 1964.
A fourth year medical student at St Edmund Hall, Oxford, Liv raced for second crew Osiris last season and is the current Vice President for St Edmund Hall Boat Club. During the race, she will be racing in an Eight, seated at seven. The University of Oxford Boat Club has been very successful in recent years winning 11 of the 15 Women's Boat Races contested since the Millennium.
Combining the academic work required to earn an Oxford degree while pursuing boat speed is no mean feat. BGS and the wider community will be cheering for Liv from the banks of the River Thames and TV screens on race day.
The Boat Race will be broadcast live on BBC One and other outlets. Find out the full schedule and Women’s Blue Boat Crews here.
