Mrs Childs (Head of Year 6)
Imagine you come across a piece of land. A piece of land not owned by anyone and up for grabs! Year 6 have been asked to imagine exactly that and have worked in groups to build their own countries in three easy steps. 1. Stake your identity, 2. Run the country, 3. Meet the neighbours. Sounds simple but not quite – girls have been tasked with researching and unpicking each individual aspect and have found that building your own country is quite involved.
They have had to draw on a host of skills learnt during the past year (and more) and applied these to their exhibition on Wednesday evening, where parents had the opportunity to view the fantastic independent projects.
Mrs Howe (Head of the Junior School) said: “The girls have drawn on a host of skills learnt during their time in the Junior School and have applied these to their final showcase exhibition. Their work is entirely independent, we are extremely proud of them all.”
Here are some reflections from the pupils:
“We were reflective because we saw what was not working with our planning and we stopped and changed things.” Belle
“We were thinkers to try to show how tax and governments work and also knowledgeable to speak about our country fluently.” Tiya
“We developed our Geography in the way we had to look at where in the world we were and how this affected the animals, food, climate and land surface.” Evelyn
“I think that we were very good talking to the adults about the project and communicating well as a team. I am impressed with how we compromised.” Izzy
“I thought that the research went very well as everything we did had lots of research behind it.” Hannah
