We are proud to celebrate the successes of five BGS girls, who auditioned for the English Youth Ballet (EYB) last month. Talented students Isabel Baker (Year 8), Kate Emerson (Year 8) and Lily-Amber Robertson (Year 7) were offered a place to perform with the company. Rachel Forbes-Laird and Erin Schofield-Mellor have been chosen as first reserves. The performance of Aurora’s Wedding/Ballet Etudes will be staged in October 2019 at Stamford Corn Exchange. This is a wonderful achievement and we wish them all the luck on their journey.

Isobel Baker, reflected on her ballet career so far, she said: “I began ballet aged 6, I now do 5 ballet classes a week in addition to classes in Jazz, Tap and Modern. This year has been a particularly good dancing year, as I took the role of Clara in the Nutcracker in January, and danced in an Easter Pantomime, Beauty and the Beast, at the Corn Exchange. However, the highlight of my dancing career is undoubtedly successfully auditioning for the EYB, particularly as I was one of the youngest in the age group. For me, dancing is such an important part of everyday as it allows me to escape from daily life and provides balance to my academic studies as well as lots of friends! Thank you Mrs Keely Power for teaching me!”

Lily-Amber Robertson adds: “The audition was thrilling and nerve racking but by far the best experience I have ever had! The judge and the teacher were so kind and made the exercises clear. There were 51 dancers and they said that they would only take 30. I am immensely happy and excited to start my journey with the EYB and hope that it will be fantastic! Thank you to Mrs Hannah D’Arcy for teaching me ballet.”
