Mr Castro (Head of Swimming)
Last Friday, the Senior School swimmers travelled to Watford to compete in the qualifying round of the ESSA Swimming Championships. The Junior squad (Years 7 and 8) raced very well but on this occasion were unable to achieve any medals.
The intermediate squad (Years 9, 10 and 11) put together some very impressive relays, placing 3rd overall in the Freestyle relay, with less than a second splitting the top three places. The Medley relay was just as close, with BGS placing 6th overall. The Senior squad continued the fine form into the evening, placing 3rd in both the Freestyle and Medley relays.
We now have to wait a few weeks until all the qualifying rounds are finished. Fingers crossed for the swimmers who are seeking a place at the National Finals (Saturday 16th November 2019), which takes place at the London Aquatics Centre.
It was a great team effort out of the 33 schools that attended this qualifying round BGS finished 3rd overall. It is fantastic that BGS continues to show so much strength and depth of swimming across all year groups of the school.
