Mrs Howlett (Deputy Head of PE)
Wednesday saw the BGS cross country athletes hit the fast and challenging trails of Ampthill Park for the County Cross Country championships. All the athletes competing have qualified as a result of finishing in the top 16 at the District race two weeks earlier.
Racing against the very best runners from each of the districts within Bedfordshire, the BGS athletes were also vying for qualifying spots to represent the Bedfordshire Cross Country team at the National Championships later this term.
During the event, there was glorious sunshine with good conditions under foot. Despite running in full sun, the air temperature felt much lower than it looked. The course was undulating with a mix of terrains, which challenged all the runners involved. However, all the BGS athletes shone, with nine top 10 places. Honourable mentions go to Jessie Parrish (Year 7) who placed 2nd in the Years 6/7 race, Rosie Foster Glennon (Year 8) placed 2nd in the Years 8/9 (Junior Race) and Natalie Simmons placed 2nd in the Year 10 (Intermediate Race).
