We are delighted to announce that Alishba Khalid (Year 10) and her brother Abdullah (Year 8, Bedford School) have reached the finals of the prestigious Conrad Innovation Challenge 2020.

The pair have been invited to present their project at the upcoming Conrad Innovation Summit at the Kennedy Space Centre Visitor Complex on April 21st – 24th 2020.

The Conrad Innovation Challenge encourages students to enjoy the freedom of thinking like there simply is no box. Each year students aged 13-18 from around the world, research and develop solutions to some of the world’s most complex problems. As part of their research, Alishba and Abdullah had to find out if it was possible to extract protein from algae.

Alishba reflected on the project: “The project we entered into the Conrad Innovation is an injection to be given to patients to reduce surgical complications and to regenerate organs, which contain special proteins harvested from a species of green algae.”

“The Challenge has a business round where we have to turn our innovative idea into a product and create a business plan too. My brother and I were inspired to take on this project as we realised that there wasn’t enough focus on treatments during and post-surgery, and to regenerate organs using genetics and proteins. We decided to enter the Challenge since we believe that it will help us develop our idea into something feasible for the real world, and to help us bring our invention to the market.”
