Whole School Eco Club

This week, we received wonderful news that BGS retained its Eco Schools Green Flag award for a fifth time, in recognition of our continued efforts to create a sustainable school environment. The award programme is run by the Keep Britain Tidy campaign with the aim of raising awareness of ecological issues, building on a school’s environmental credentials plus helping to develop pupil skills, such as leadership, communication.

BGS’ Eco Council representatives have been instrumental in devising various eco initiatives and participating in projects to provide a vast array of evidence to support the Award application. Over the past two years since the last award, the Eco Council has been busy planting trees at Cople Fields, working in the Green’s Kitchen Garden as well as hosting a cycle ride to highlight the health and environmental benefits of cycling, to name just a few activities. There has also been much work to extend the school’s recycling endeavours so as to allow for items not usually recyclable, like crisps packets and pens.

A huge well done to our Junior and Senior School Eco Councils, who have used their collective voices to make a real difference to the #BGSCommunity and beyond.
