Talented artist, Olivia O’Dell (Year 10), was thrilled to receive her prize-winning picture in a frame, a £15 voucher, certificate and funds for the Art Department. During October, Olivia was awarded third place (11-14 age category) in the Fabric of Bedford 2020 Art Competition.

Organised by the Harpur Trust in collaboration with The Higgins Bedford, The competition was open to all schools across the borough. With the deadline for submission just days after lockdown, many schools went the extra mile to get their work in, but the restrictions over the summer meant the exhibition at The Higgins Bedford had to be cancelled. However, for the first time ever, on Thursday 8th October the celebratory event was streamed live to the local community.

Mrs Lugsden (Head of Art and Textiles), said: “We are so pleased that Oliva was awarded a prize for her super Textiles work from Year 9, exploring the theme of Still Life. Her piece looked fantastic framed, and we hope that she enjoys spending her voucher! The department was also awarded a prize and we have purchased two beautiful Textiles books to support the teaching and learning of Year 9 girls in the future.”
