In January, Year 8 will once again take part in the CyberFirst Girls Competition, run by the National Cyber Security Centre.

Over 10 days, teams of up to four students will compete to solve as many puzzles as possible. The puzzles begin simply to guide the girls through the basics of cryptography, cyber security, networking, logic and coding, but get trickier as the teams progress, stretching their thinking and their tenacity!

In 2021 the competition will run from noon on the 25th January to the 3rd of February. Each participant will receive a certificate, while the top teams in each category will receive a small prize. The overall school winners may be invited to the regional semi-finals, like our 2020 team.

To register, students need to form a team of up to four members, and send their names, and a team name to Ms Davies or Mr Potter (Computer Science teachers).

For older students, there are also CyberFirst courses, bursaries and apprenticeships.
