We are delighted to announce that two of our Bel Canto students, Serena Jacob (Year 9) and Cecilia Kilpatrick (Year 10), have been offered places in the prestigious National Youth Girls’ Choir, following Zoom auditions for the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain (NYCGB) last month.

The talented choristers shone at the demanding auditions and received fantastic feedback from the adjudicators. Serena reflected: “I am really thrilled to have been selected as a member of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain as I have always had a passion for music. I believe this will elevate the standard of my singing and expose me to a wide range of music and songs, which should ultimately enhance my musicality.”

Cecilia added: “It feels amazing to have been selected, and I cannot wait for my first course in the Easter holidays! It will be really good to sing in a huge choir again with some of the best singers in the country, who I think will really inspire me.”

Serena has been a member of Bel Canto since starting in Year 7 at the school. She recently achieved distinction in Grade 5 ABRSM Singing examination and has consistently won first prize for solo singing entries at the Bedfordshire Festival of Music, Speech and Drama, for the past four years.

Cecilia is Head Chorister of St. Andrew’s Church in Bedford and has been a part of the choir for five years. Recently she took her Dean’s Bronze Award Exam with them and passed with a high distinction. She has also been a member of Bel Canto since Year 7 and is due to take her Grade 8 ABRSM singing exam next term. As well as these choirs, she sings in the joint choir between Bedford School and BGS.

The choristers will be taking their place with the choir at Easter. We look forward to sharing their progress with you in the future!
