Mrs Cruse (Head of Years 7 and 8)

As the term nears to end, Years 7 and 8 will be thinking about messages of ‘Kindness’. The year of 2020 has been an unusual year where we have all had to get used to a new kind of ‘normal’. As part of this new ‘normal’ we have not been able to spend as much time with our friends and family. This means that the message of kindness is even stronger and more powerful.

Many students are also thinking about Secret Santa and gifts, this year we are trying to get the students to think about the fact everyone can afford to give the gift of kindness. At the start of the year with the death of celebrity Caroline Flack the slogan “In a world where you can be anything, be kind” appeared everywhere and this is what Years 7 and 8 will be thinking about. We will be getting the students to write a message of kindness to create two pieces of artwork to display in the school to remind everyone that the wonderful thing is it is so very easy to be kind.

The students will then put into practice the act of kindness during their annual service afternoons, where they will be designing Christmas cards and writing their own message of hope to those less fortunate than us. At the same time, they will be learning about the school charity, Bedford Open Door, which is a charity that provides free and confidential counselling to young people aged 13 - 25.
