Ella Turner (Upper Sixth)
Last weekend, I took part in a very exciting opportunity to make an episode for a German podcast created by the Goethe Institut, an organisation that works to inspire more people to take German and keep the language alive.
It began when I was recommended by my German teacher, Frau Lessig, to sign up for a trip to Germany offered by the Goethe Institut during the October Half-Term, however due to COVID this sadly wasn’t possible. Instead, the company created a podcast of which I was lucky enough to record an episode. I got to meet a plethora of people from all around the UK passionate about the German culture, language and communication.
The course consisted of six hours to come up with five questions and a script for an interview with a native German speaker. Our interviewee was a German rock musician, who spoke inspirationally about the importance of dedication to music in order to succeed. I had never participated in a podcast before and I not only had the chance to improve my German but also learn how podcasts are produced. It’s inspired me to one day create my own podcast about my passions and inspirations.
The Goethe Institut is amazing for anyone who wants to go on to study German and they are currently running an online German escape room! Information on other exciting courses and competitions can be found online on their website. German is often overlooked, yet there are so many exciting possibilities it presents.
Without German I would never have had this wonderful opportunity to meet new people and delve into the world of Podcasting. The Podcast will be released by the Goethe Institut here in the upcoming weeks and I recommend it to anyone wanting to improve their German listening or just to enjoy the stories.
