Talented modeller, Eleni Zorn (Year 10), has created an incredible lockdown house model. Inspired by her project day in Year 9, Eleni decided to design an ideal lockdown house, which was completed during the half term break with the help of her dad.

Eleni reflected, she said: “For this project I decided to design and create my ideal lockdown house. This is my ideal house as it has all the essential rooms, is open, saves money and has many facilities outside. I decided to have my living room, dining room and kitchen open because there is lots of space and it doesn’t feel as confined. Upstairs I have three bedrooms- a master bedroom and two guest bedrooms- and a study. I have a study because during lockdown I have been doing schoolwork in my bedroom, so having a study lets me study without the clutter from my bedroom.

“I included lots of glass, which lets the natural sunlight in and increases air circulation. This house saves money as it uses many energy efficient products. It has double glazed windows which reduces heat loss and it reduces the volume of external noise. Also, I decided to include lots of windows because it lets the sunlight in, as mentioned earlier, which means you won’t need to use artificial lights. Furthermore, I have put solar panels on top of the first floor as they reduce your electricity bills and help reduce the carbon dioxide emissions and other pollutants in our atmosphere.

“Additionally, I decided to have many facilities outside as during lockdown I have been missing having a garden and swimming. I decided to include a pool as it means I can still train without leaving my house. I also included a garden because growing your food is not only cheaper, it is cleaner and safer than buying as you know where the vegetables and fruit have been before you eat them.

“The main materials I used are: foam board, acrylic paint, popsicle sticks and match sticks, plastic sheets for the windows and felt for the grass. I also used cork board for the garden itself, and model trees.”
