We are extremely proud to announce that Masooma Sultana (Lower Sixth) has been elected as Deputy Member of Youth Parliament for Bedford.
The Bedford Borough Youth Cabinet is made up of young people from every school in the borough as well as community groups and other settings. They come together to influence decisions and change things for young people in their area and across Bedford Borough.
Masooma reflected on her election: “I have been a member of Bedford Youth Cabinet for the past four years and I was recently elected as Deputy Member of Youth Parliament for Bedford. This means I represent Bedford and all of its young people on a national level. I take the views of young people (particularly from make your mark) and try to make a change alongside the other members.
“During my time as a member of Bedford Youth Cabinet I have been involved in multiple events for young people including pupil voice conferences, a SEND (special educational need and disabilities) conference and regularly interviewing for open roles to ensure the people who will be making the most important decisions about young people are the best for the job. Over lockdown I have become one of two representatives for Bedford’s young people in a high street heritage project to revamp Bedford Town Centre.
“I first got involved because I wanted to make a difference and ensure my voice is heard especially since many of the decisions made will affect our generation in the future. As soon as I joined, I made great friendships and really felt as if my views are being taken into account whilst actually making an impact. In the future I would definitely love to be involved in politics after going to university but who knows what the future holds?”
