Theatre Crew is Back!

Senior School Performing Arts

With the return of students to school, our Year 9 Theatre Crew club was able to start back up again last week. With the prospect of restrictions easing into next term, this means that our group is able to start looking at designing for a live production under the guidance of Miss Elsom (designing for lighting and sound) and Miss Middleton (designing for costume, set and hair and make-up).

We are all so excited to be able to start working towards our next production, which is Queen Lear for Year 9, directed by Mrs Horton. The aim is for the Theatre Crew to support the artistic vision for the production and so they will both design and crew the show; allowing students the ability to focus on a specific design element as well as technical skill such as: lighting, set or costume.

This opportunity is an integral part of the department’s mission to develop professional level production skills and to allow for 360 learning experiences that support the GCSE and A-Level courses where students can choose the designer pathway, which is also explored in curriculum lessons from Year 6 upwards.

This week we started by looking at lighting; taking a slightly different approach from usual as we are unable to have our crew operate the lighting desk at present. So, continuing to develop the digital literacy and confidence of our students, we used a free online resource, which allowed for a virtual recreation of lighting the stage. View their digital lighting designs HERE.
