Many congratulations to Amelia Jones (Year 9), who along with her team, Wixams Wanderers Diamonds, became the Bedfordshire FA Division 1 League Champions for girls U14. The competitive league also covers Buckinghamshire, making it an impressive achievement. As league winners in the top division, they will be competing in the ACES Nationals Tournament in August against other top teams from around the country.

Amelia has been playing football for nine years now. She began playing on Westoning United’s girls’ team in 2016 and has played every position in that time but prefers playing in defence. She joined Wixams Wanderers Diamonds, her current team, in summer 2019.

Amelia is also a figure skater and trains six days a week on the ice. With the support of the school, she has been able balance all her extra commitments.

Amelia reflected: “Last season we were in the lead, but the entire season was declared null and void due to COVID, which was very disappointing. We’re all really happy to have won the league this year and I’m looking forward to the national competition in August.”
