Miss Dawson (Biology Teacher)
As part of a university application for Medicine, and for some Dentistry courses, students must complete one of two aptitude tests, known as the UCAT (University Clinical Aptitude Test) and the BMAT (BioMedical Admissions Test).
These tests are challenging, and as part of our UCAS preparation for the Lower Sixth, we invited Amri Shakir, a third-year medic at the University of Oxford, to speak to our prospective medics and dentists. He spoke about how to best prepare for these tests, as well as hints and tips for approaching the questions which require verbal reasoning, decision making, quantitative reasoning, abstract reasoning and situational judgement, as well as Science based questions and an essay for the BMAT.
Meranie Kairu (Lower Sixth) said: “It was great to have first-hand advice from Amri, as he took both tests for his own application. The tips for approaching questions and spotting the examiners tricks and traps was particularly useful.”
