It’s heart-warming to hear inspirational stories from our staff, students and the wider BGS community on how they are supporting local initiatives and raising awareness of charities. Read below to find out more!

Our amazing Green Kitchen team, consisting of Mrs Hadley (Sous Chef), Mrs Gaddu (Kitchen Assistant) and Mr Pickard (Chef Manager) took part in The Cransley Hospice 20th Anniversary Road Race on the 19th September 2021.

It was Mrs Gaddu’s and Mr Pickard’s first official road race on a very undulating course in damp and rainy conditions. For their next challenge, they are thinking about entering The Coleworth Pukka Pie relay, which is 26.2 miles run in teams of five.

After seeing the news about the plight of the Afghan people, inspirational Year 6 students Amelia Atherton, Olivia James and Jemima Sivills decided to take action to raise awareness and vital funds. They made homemade lemonade, pick and mix and other items in their local neighbourhood.

They said: “Around two weeks ago we saw something on the news, which was about the way refugees (people that fled from their homes) from Afghanistan were really struggling.

“We were convinced there was something we could do to help, although we are young, it doesn't mean we can't try. The local Red Cross inspired us to take a leap out of our comfort zone and raise some money towards the needs of refugees from Afghanistan.”

During Spring, Mrs Ashby and Mrs Lowe from the Admissions Team took on the challenge of completing a million steps each in two months to raise money for Rachel’s Rainbow Dashers, a specially named fund, raising money for Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group. The fund was set up to support research into children’s cancer after the daughter of one of their good friends was diagnosed with a rare form of leukaemia in April 2019. In total to date the fund has raised over £28,000.

Finally, Mrs Lowe (School Counsellor) and her family are walking 100 miles in October for Mind, she said: “Mind is a fantastic charity offering free resources to me, schools, families and all and free counselling services, training to professionals, a depression alliance and more.”
