Following her incredible performances in the Home Nation 6s during the summer, we’re delighted to announce that BGS lacrosse coach, Mrs Greenwood, has been selected to represent the England Women’s senior training squad for the forthcoming World Lacrosse Women’s World Championships 2022.
Mrs Greenwood, who currently plays as a Goal Keeper, has also represented Florida Southern College in Division 2, where she played for three years, and captained for two. She received national recognition in America, in 2013 and 2014 as the Division 2 Goalie of the Year and named as an IWLCA 1st Team All American.
Mrs Greenwood reflected: “I’m excited to participate as a member of the England Team in the World Cup this summer and on the GB lacrosse team under British Lacrosse. The World Cup is a time-honoured competition where we can flex our lacrosse muscles and show the lacrosse community how great we are as a nation! Directly after is The World Games, Where GB takes its first real step into making 6s a full Olympic sport in 2028. To be a part of history is always incredible and I feel so honoured!”
The World Cup, consisting of over 30 nations, runs from June 29th to July 9th, 2022 in Towson Maryland. This overlaps with the World Games that run from 7-17 July 2022 in Birmingham, Alabama and consists of various sports looking for admittance into the Olympics. Other than being approved by the IOC it’s a major criteria for future participation.
An inspiring role model to all students, BGS and the whole community are extremely proud of Mrs Greenwood’s achievements. View the squad list here.
