Many congratulations to Kara Farquhar (Year 8) who has been chosen to attend the World Scout Jamboree in South Korea in 2023.

Kara has been a member of her local Scout group for a little under two years and has progressed to becoming a Patrol Leader (where she has responsibility for her Patrol which is made up of 5/6 scouts).

The World Scout Jamboree is an event that brings young people (aged between 14 and 18) from around the world to be together for an exciting programme of global development, peace, cultural understanding, adventure, fun and friendship. The event takes place every four years in a different country and is open to Scouts and Guides. The first WSJ took place in England in 1920 and since then, 24 such events have been held. The most recent in the USA in 2019.

In preparation for the Jamboree, participants will attend several training camps in or around the Buckingham area, as well as social events and a city trip to get to know the Unit and leaders before heading to South Korea in the summer of 2023.

Kara participated in the Buckingham Scout selection weekend in early September for Scouts who were interested in attending the next World Scout Jamboree. The selection process involved many different activities which were assessed over the course of a weekend, as well as a peer vote amongst the 36 final participants, all of whom were competing for one of the 10 available spaces for the World Scout Jamboree event. Kara made it through the selection process and has been offered a place in one of the Units making up the UK Contingent to this event in South Korea in 2023.
