Inspirational Upper Sixth students, Scarlett Ames and Georgina Wright, are currently undertaking the 56-mile challenge for Cancer Research UK in memory of their loved ones.

We spoke to Georgia about the challenge, she said: “I started to run 56 miles in February to raise funds and awareness for cancer after the death of my Grandfather, who passed away after a second battle with cancer. I took on the challenge running both outside and, on a treadmill, as it is a charity very close to my heart. Scarlett Ames very kindly offered to run with me as she has also lost a loved one to cancer, which allowed us to help motivate each other and push us closer to our goal.

“So far we have completed 48 miles of the 56 miles and raised £1240 which is way above our £500 target; and we are so thankful for everyone that has donated. Before this challenge I did not enjoy  just straight running and the thought of running 5km sounded both daunting and boring. However, throughout the month, I have started enjoying it more, especially outside where you can look at the views and on my last run managed to do 7 km. I would like to continue running and also do some more charitable events such as a half marathon.”
