After engaging in open conversations about the international crisis in Ukraine during form time programmes and assemblies, inspirational Year 5 pupils Millie Middleton and Evie Laidlaw Hansen, decided they wanted to fundraise for the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal DEC.
On Saturday 19th March, the girls ran their own stall during an Easter fundraising event at Orchard School. The pair made fabulous little goodie bags and decided to make them from a page of a magazine, as ‘reuse and recycle’ theme was important to them. The bags were filled with little treats and toys and sold to children at the fair. After covering their costs, they raised £60!
Mrs Whomsley (Head of Year 5) said): “Millie and Evie’s fundraising is a fantastic example of how the girls are taking action outside of the classroom based on their reflections on the world around them. I am so impressed with how they have planned the items they sold, particularly with the eco-friendly packaging. They should be really proud of themselves and how they have supported a worthy charity.”
Evie said: “It was really fun making up all the bags to sell at the fair. Although it did take us quite a long time to make them, it feels really good to be able to help families fleeing the conflict in Ukraine.”
Millie said: “It was a fun experience to be able to sell the goodie bags at my old school. We told the younger children how we had made the recycled bags. I am glad they sold well because I know the money we raised will help people who are suffering in Ukraine.”
