Many congratulations to Years 9 and 10 students, who discovered their results recently, having been challenged by a prestigious mathematics competition.
The maths students achieved this success in the UKMT Grey and Pink Kangaroo Challenges after excelling in the UKMT Intermediate Mathematical Challenge (IMC) at the beginning of February.
The Grey (Year 9) and Pink (Year 10) Kangaroo Challenge is a 60-minute, multiple-choice competition consisting of 25 problems. Entry to the competition is by invitation only and is based on a qualifying score.
In the Grey Kangaroo Challenge, Aadya Betadpur achieved a merit (top 25% of all those participating in this Kangaroo Challenge in the UK). Alice Everitt just missed out on a merit by one mark, other students who got participation certificate are Imogen Davis, Danae Karavaggelis, Mitali Misra, Ava Oldroyd, Anna Shinto, Sanvi Singh and Moksha Sunkara.
In the Pink Kangaroo Challenge, Eloise Jones, Sarah Pepper and Eva Ng received Participation Certificates.
In total, nine Year 9 and three Year 10 students participated in this year’s UKMT Intermediate Mathematical Challenge (IMC). The 25-question multiple-choice Mathematical Challenge aims to stimulate mathematical problem solving. It encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems.
Mr Jeffryes (Mathematics Teacher) said: “Congratulations to all those students who gained certificates following the Intermediate Maths Challenge and Kangaroo rounds. I am sure the challenges were great learning experiences for all involved. Answering questions such as ‘How many positive integers between 100 and 300 have only odd digits? A 25 B 50 C 75 D 100 E 150’, made the students come up with a clever or logical method (or both) so that they can get the solution as quickly as possible.”
