Whole School Cricket

Mrs Jackson (PE Teacher)

This year sees the first full season of cricket at BGS. Following the kind donation from The Association, we purchased a 2G Flicx pitch which enables us to use the indoor nets and play hard and soft ball matches. Indoor training started in February and shortly after we entered the Lady Taverners Indoor League. After winning the county finals at both U13 and U15, we then went onto represent Cricket East at the Regionals Finals. We were one of only two schools who qualified across the East region in both age groups.

This term we have been fortunate enough to use Bedford Cricket Club on a Friday afternoon to develop the more confident cricketers, using the hard ball nets and astro wicket. We would encourage all the students to join local clubs such as Bedford CC to support their cricket. We also have many students who are busy training hard, and soon to be playing matches, for various counties. At the top end of cricket performance, sisters Florence (Upper Sixth) and Natasha Miller (Year 11) play for the Sunrisers Cricket, Natasha for the academy, and Florence for both the academy and the full side.

Last Tuesday saw our first ever competitive outdoor match. It was an U18 cup game against Haileybury at Bedford School. Captained by Florence Miller, BGS went on to win the game by 8 wickets. Amelia Barrow Jones scored a very credible 58 not out, and  overall it was a fantastic team performance.
