Senior School Music

Mr Atkins (Music Teacher)

After a lengthy Covid-enforced hiatus, Rock Night was back in full force this year at The Quarry Theatre on Tuesday 26th May.

The evening saw the finest student bands from across the Harpur Trust come together to provide an evening of thrilling entertainment. With material ranging from Stevie Wonder to Harry Styles, without exception the performances showed great musical maturity and sensitivity towards their respective eras.

As usual, BGS was strongly represented with students taking part in a range of different ensembles. Huge congratulations to all of the students involved! A big thank you to all of the performers, and also to the Charities Committee members, who did an excellent job of selling drinks and taking additional donations for the Red Cross Ukraine appeal. This, together with ticket sale proceeds, raised a tremendous £641.40.

Charlotte Sanders (Lower Sixth) said: “Rock Night was an excellent evening which lots of bands from both schools played in. Performing was good fun too as all students joined in singing or dancing. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and know lots of others did too!”

Mimi Seward (Lower Sixth) said: “Rock Night was an amazing opportunity for my friends and me; both for performing and watching all the other amazing performers. This was my band’s first gig and I couldn’t have asked for a warmer or more lively crowd to perform to. I’ll definitely be there next year to experience the same exciting atmosphere; I can’t wait to spend another evening with like-minded people.”

Alice Toone (Year 11) added: “I really enjoyed rock night, I thought it had a great atmosphere and it was very cool to be able to perform with the boys and at a venue like the quarry, I’m looking forward to next year definitely.”
