Senior School English

Mrs Graves (Head of English)

During the week of World Book Day, the English department launched a competition for the Year 7 form groups to decorate their classroom door as a book cover. Students were given free choice as to which book they would recreate, and it was wonderful to see some varied reading interests reflected in their selections. Some forms chose to recreate childhood classics, like Julia Donaldson’s The Gruffalo, whilst others chose more current interests such as Spin the Dawn, by Elizabeth Lim. The slightly spooky Coraline also appeared, along with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and The Maddie Diaries.

Each form took a different approach to the task, and we were very impressed with their creative uses of different materials and styles of image. It has been a great topic of conversation around the school as the designs have emerged, and now that they are all complete they stand as a real testament to the students’ teamwork and enthusiasm for the project.

We are thrilled to announce that the winning form is 7GJP, with a special award for creative use of materials for 7LJS. Thank you to Mrs Lugsden (Head of Art and Design) for her help with the difficult judging decision!

We look forward to seeing what next year’s Year 7 forms come up with when their turn arrives; they certainly have rather large creative shoes to fill.
