Following Róisín Scanlon’s (Year 9) outstanding performances in April, we are super proud to announce that the talented golfer has been selected for the Golf Ireland Under 18 High Performance Programme.

The programme aims to equip players with the necessary skills to help them participate in the sport for life. It also aims to provide opportunities for players to achieve their full potential, from basic competencies to representatives’ honours and ultimately becoming a professional golfer.

Róisín will follow in the footsteps of her parents who both represented Ireland at international level; her father competed in the 800m and her mother still holds the Irish national record for the triple jump both indoors (2005) and outdoors (2005).

Róisín reflected: “I am really excited and looking forward to the next chapter in my golfing journey. This year, I expressed an interest in competing for Ireland as I knew I was eligible through my parents. After promising performances in the Scottish Girls' Under 18s Championship and the R&A Girls U16 Amateur Championship, I was thrilled to find out I was selected for this prestigious programme.”

Over the coming weeks various teams will be selecting individuals based on performance in various international competitions of which Roisin will have an opportunity to be considered for selection. Find out more about Golf Ireland's High Performance Programme here.
